Will My Information Be Private?

We will keep your information private to the extent allowed by law.  We will not use your name in our research but will assign a number to the research data that we collect from you.  We will not link your contact information to the data that we collect from you during the study.  There are many steps we will take to keep your information private.  Any personal information collected from you during the recruitment and consenting process will not be linked to your research data in any way.  Study numbers will be used on all computer files instead of participant names.  Stored data files will not contain any other protected-level or personally identifiable information.  The research data we collect from you during walking trials will be anonymized and made publicly available on the HealthLINK Clinical Research Center server http://healthportal.sdsu.edu/ and the Electrical and Computer Engineering server http://iotlab.sdsu.edu/.  This data will not contain any identifying or HIPAA-protected health information (ePHI).  However, other researchers may download and use data collected from you in their current or future research.  Data will be preserved on SDSU servers for an indeterminate amount of time.  We will use the data we collect from you in published articles and in presentations to other scientists. We will keep your personally identifiable information private. Others will not be able to identify you or your data in papers or presentations.
